The traditional cooling tower fan drive installation requires that the motor be located outside the fan stack. The motor is remot to the gear reducer using a connecting driveshaft with flexible couplers at each end. Preventive maintenance is necessary to avoid gear oil leaks, coupling and catastrophic fan failure.
